Matuail Landfill Waste Segregation Study for DRCIP | B&F Group

A technical team from B&F Company Limited carried out a seasonal waste segregation and composition analysis at the Matuail Sanitary Landfill on 19 April 2026, as part of the preparatory activities for the Dhaka Resource Circulation Industrial Park (DRCIP) pilot project.

The initiative is designed to establish a data-driven understanding of municipal solid waste characteristics, which are known to vary significantly across seasons. Accurate knowledge of waste composition is critical for optimizing technology selection, process design, and operational efficiency within the DRCIP framework.

Waste Segregation Study

During the exercise, a representative sample of approximately 10–20 kg of mixed municipal waste was collected and manually segregated into key categories, including food waste, plastic waste, paper, polythene, glass, and ceramics. Each fraction was subsequently weighed and analyzed to develop a detailed waste composition profile.

This study builds on a previous waste characterization assessment conducted on 29 January 2026 during the dry season. B&F plans to conduct a corresponding wet season analysis to complete the seasonal dataset, which will play a crucial role in the technical design and implementation of the DRCIP pilot project.

The DRCIP initiative aims to transform conventional waste management practices into a resource recovery-based circular system, integrating advanced technologies such as Material Recovery Facilities (MRF), biogas, pyrolysis, and other sustainable waste-to-resource solutions.
